Horizon Engineering Training School

The Horizon Engineering Training School is Northern Ireland’s first facility for High and Low Voltage systems training as well as Mechanical Competency training. For the first time, engineers with the necessary aptitude and qualifications can undertake training to further their electrical engineering and mechanical engineering careers by maintaining their competence right here in Belfast.

Horizon Electrical Training School

Operating HV switchgear can be a potentially dangerous activity, and it’s vital that only competent and confident engineers carry out HV switching operations.

At the Horizon Electrical Training School, we understand the importance of keeping HV switchgear knowledge current through regular practice and development of skills in a safe environment.

Maintaining competence is a key requirement of the Electricity at Work Regulations, and we help organisations to support their engineers by providing appropriate initial training as well as refresher training at regular intervals. Above all, we instil the planning, professional discipline and routine associated with an HV switching operation to ensure engineers can carry out their work safely.

Horizon Mechanical Training School

As you can appreciate carrying out works on mechanical systems can be a dangerous activity. It is vitally important that mechanical engineers who are carrying out these works ensure Safety isolations are carried out in the correct manner to prevent danger to themselves and their working party. It is important and vital that only competent and confident engineers carry out the Mechanical isolations required to ensure their own and their working party’s safety.

At the Horizon Mechanical Training School, we understand the importance of keeping mechanical knowledge current through regular practice and development of skills in a safe environment. Maintaining competence is a key requirement of  The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations & The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations.

We assist organisations to support their engineers by providing appropriate initial training as well as refresher training at regular intervals. Above all, we instil the planning, professional discipline and routine associated with a Mechanical Isolations operation to ensure engineers can carry out their work safely.

Who should attend these courses?

Delegates who are to be appointed under safety rules with responsibility for the operation, isolation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical plant.

Those who may be nominated as a Competent or Skilled Person within their organisation and need to demonstrate the appropriate level of experience of electrical and mechanical systems and electrical and mechanical principles and theory of safe operation.

Our courses will be structured around classroom-based activities and practical exercises over five days, with refresher training covered in three days. At the end of the course, engineers have the option to take a written and/or practical test, the results of which they can use as evidence of their training.

Facilities

With a fully equipped training room and a practical training area complete with high and low voltage electrical switchgear and mechanical plant, the Horizon Engineering Training School is well placed to offer the specialist training that high voltage electrical engineers are required to undertake every three years.

Our electrical practical training area features a typical industrial substation equipped with HV and LV switchgear, key lock cabinets, control equipment and all the building and life safety systems that would typically be found in an industrial substation building. Access to the substation is via securely locked doors complete with all necessary identification and safety signage.

Our mechanical practical training area will feature a typical industrial facility equipped with Pumps, valves, pressure gauges, key lock cabinets, control equipment and all the building and life safety systems that would typically be found within an industrial building.
